PS3, more powerful, more asthetic, more expensive

Sony Executives at this years E3 (everyone come to more LAN's so Dean, Chris and I can go next year) let slip that the upcoming PS3 will cost between 499 and 599 Euros depending on which version you buy (there are different models with different sized hard disks apparently), which at todays exchange rate equals between $839 and $1007.

Despite the fact that this will be competing with the already released X-Box 360, currently priced at $499, and the Nintendo Wii (why the hell did they rename it from revolution for???) which as yet is unannounced, It would appear that Sony has decided to go for the "If we make it look exclusive more people will want it" mode of marketing, and whilst it may be an effective tool for resteraunts I do not think it will pay off for a games console. As much as I enjoy gaming I can think of much better things to spend $1000 on, to be honest I even think $499 for the 360 is to rich for what it is, and yes I know I would probably spend more than that every few years on new computer parts, but personally I use my PC a lot more than I use my console, both for gaming and for other activities such as Assignments, Email, Chatting and writing useless dribble for you people to read.

Then again it would not be the first time that Sony announced a much higher intended release price than what eventually took place, the PSP was a prime example of this.

The PS3 Boasts a number of altogether worthless and unorigonal features. For example it will be able to link with PSP's (and we all know what a great marketing ploy  handheld connectivity turned out to be for the Gamecube, and Gameboys are far more common than PSP's), it will play Blue-Ray discs, which up untill now have been unable to find a market, it will come with a built in hard drive ranging from 20 to 60GB (wow thats huge....) and it will be "35 times more powerful" than the PS2.

If Sony thinks they can sell an altogether unremarkable machine for $1000, they may be in for a rude shock.

Ok, i'll put my two cents worth here, even though I am not a fan of Sony ever since buying the original xbox after the PS1, I can't really see how Sony will be able to keep up with the Xbox 360. The new generation consoles are now at the stage, where they are HDTV compatible. So this means if you have 1080i or 720i this is the picture quality in the game you are going to get. So basically PS3 (if it supports HDTV) and Xbox360 are on par in the graphics department. I think while the consoles will be of similar power, the features of the Xbox 360 will brutally destroy the launching of the PS3, for one Xbox Live has been established for a number of years and is quite popular, and will continue to grow as Microsoft give you a freemonth of full Live membership on purchasing the Xbox Premium package (core package too maybe?) just to whet your appetite. Also as I have just installed Windows Media Centre, I can now stream movies from my computer to anywhere (within wireless range) in my house to any TV through the 360. This includes music and pictures as well. The only thing I can see the PS3 having an advantage over the 360 is perhaps the game titles that are exclusive to PS3. As for Nintendo, WTF IS WITH THAT CONTROLLER ('nuff said)

I agree the controller for the Wii Looks rediculous and I am somewhat concerned about it, however it apparently features motion sensors, meaning that it will react to your body movements, which is something that other consoles have not really dabbled with a great deal (Eye toys deal with body movement as well but not in the same way). Guess we will just have to wait and see.
